Manufacture of Ambrosia Rice Pudding and Custard

What we do:

Famously 100 years old this year we make pots and tins of custard and rice pudding, using local resources wherever possible, especially Devon cream and milk. We are a continuously running business with operators working day and night shifts.

Why we became a healthy workplace:

In order to promote health in the workplace and improve health year on year through one to one encounters and group education.

Recent health and well being activities:

Know Your Numbers event in September.
This is a drop in event run over 2 days to help people identify their blood pressure/weight/and units of alcohol consumed in order to promote improvements in lifestyle. Stop Smoking advice given where needed.
Summer Cycle challenge, Raft race and a day of varied walks. These were all very successful.

 

Success Story:

I have been delighted to see a number of people stop smoking this year, and also an individual who decided to lose weight to help with a musculoskeletal problem.

 

Ginsters

A reduction in cost of advertising and agency fees attest to the fact fewer people leave the company and that candidates now approach Ginsters direct as they are seen as an employer of choice.  Number of applicants in 2005 = 2481, in 2006 = 3641 and in 2008 = 3764.  Advertising costs reduced from £50,743 in 2005 to £33,805 in 2007 and £18,126 in 2008.

In Ginsters' Employee Satisfaction Survey, Ginsters have moved from last place in 2005 within the group of 15 companies to second in the 2009 Survey.
