Halwin School

primary school 86 children

What we do:

Teaching and learning through our core school values.

Confidence, Aspiration, Resilience, Enjoyment.

Why we became a healthy workplace:

We became a healthy workplace for a number of reasons: Increased workloads, huge amount of staffing changes and uncertainty for the future. High levels of mental health issues within staffing families. Nikki was very poorly for a number of months which had a knock on affect on the rest of the team and staff morale. Nikki was able to build on her fitness and strength through a number of channels to be fit again. She wanted to share what she had learned and help others.

Recent health and well being activities:

Football golf, Pink Wig, Pretty muddy,

Pedometer challenge

Water/hydration challenge.

Shout out board, health and wellbeing board.

Cream of the crop. Box of fun!

Veg boxes from Kelly's farm shop.

Snack rotas

Personal training sessions for staff in school.

Staff bollywood Zumba.

All staff encouraged to walk/runa  mile with the children everyday.

Stress management training

MindEd training

Success Story:

A member of staff has made some significant changes to her health and well being. She has purchased a water bottle and ensures she drinks 2 bottles at least a day- better than the 2 cups of coffee she had before!

She is also making a concerted effort to walk more, wearing the pedometers highlighted how little movement she was doing. She is trying to move more each day- even purchasing a puppy to help with her incentives!

Some staff members are trying to practice pebble meditation on a daily basis and have recognised the huge benefits.

The healthy workplace award has had a huge positive impact on our team. The enthusiastic and dedicated work of our Health Champions have raised awareness of many health related matters and initiatives across our school. All the staff feel supported and encouraged to talk about matters, they know who to go to and we are all certainly enjoying our healthy snacks rota, weekly exercise classes and even competing against each other (some of us!) to see who can do the most steps on their pedometer!
As a whole staff we are committed to the health and well being of our staff and this award has ensured that is kept high profile in our school.
