St Minver School

An inclusive primary school on the Camel estuary in North Cornwall.

What we do:

St Minver School is an inclusive primary school and part of the Aspire Primary Academy Trust.  It is located on the Camel estuary in North Cornwall.

We educate primary aged children from 4 to 11 years old.

Why we became a healthy workplace:

The Aspire Academy Trust has made Health and Wellbeing central in its support of all it's staff.

As a member of the Trust we have embraced wellbeing and mindfulness to ensure all staff feel valued.

Encouraging a healthy workplace is key to creating and maintaining a healthy work life balance for the staff.

Training health and wellbeing champions has aided this process and has embedded a positive healthy approach to the workplace.

Recent health and well being activities:

* all staff were encouraged to participate in free NHS health checks

* staff encouraged to participate in physical activity eg. staff weekly fitness group, staff cycling to work, staff running half marathons etc.

* staff supported by management through bereavement, prolonged illness, etc.

*Health and wellbeing champion encouraged other staff members to become champions to develop a team.

* staff actively enrolled in weight groups and discuss their successes

We are a happy, supportive staff who feel valued by our management team.  The door is always open and we genuinely feel that St. Minver School cares about our wellbeing.

Stress & Absence - 2014

Success Story

My name is Tony King and I'm part of the Maintenance Team at YMCA Cornwall.  When I first started working here, I spotted the Cycle to Work Scheme on a poster so I thought I would enquire about it.

It's very easy to set up; you can get up to £1000 which covers the cost of the bike, a lock, helmet and lights.  All you had to do was go to the bike shop and choose your bike.

Since getting my bike, I've now been cycling for the past 18 months from Hayle (to Penzance) which is 11 miles.  I feel fitter, I've lost weight and it has got me into cycling having been cycling in France and Belgium.  Next year I'm going cycling in Holland.

All in all, it's a good scheme and I would highly recommend it.
