Tate St Ives

In 2011 I accepted an invitation to the Healthy Workplace seminar, it was a revelation to discover organisations making a tangible difference without needing a huge financial outlay and encouraged me to introudce some initiatives of our own at Tate St Ives.

At the same time as I began this work the government announced a further cut in our central funding which of course caused stress and anxiety amongst the team as restructuring and cost cutting measures were put in place across all four Tate galleries.  This was therefore a perfect time to look more carefully and creatively at our teams' health and wellbeing, both physical and mental.  It has been a hugely enjoyable and beneficial initiative which has now become embedded in our ethos and planning at Tate St Ives.

Occupational Health

Where occupational health was provided, 39% of companies recorded a decline in short-term absence, whilst 28% experienced a reduction in long-term absence [CIPD 2008].

Sickness Absence

Annually the average sickness absence is 3.5% (8 days per employee) and the average cost of absence per employee is estimated at £666.  If you employ 100 people sickness absence is costing your business £66,000 each year.  (CIPD Employee Absence, July 2008).
