Five Ways to Wellbeing

Are you and your staff getting your five ways to wellbeing?

 The specific aims of the campaign are to raise awareness of:

  • actions that can enhance individual wellbeing
  • where to get advice and support for healthy lifestyles and mental health in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The key messages in this campaign are the 'five ways to wellbeing'.  The 'five ways' are described as five themes:

Within each of these five themes a number of suggested actions are listed; these are designed to appeal to as wide an audience as possible.  For example 'being active' needn't mean taking up a sport; it could be sufficient to go for a stroll or do a little gardening.  'Give' needn't mean committing regular time to voluntary work; it could mean do a favour for a neighbour.  The themes have been selected through a rigorous review of research evidence and these messages are being promoted nationally as well as in our local campaigns.

Mental Health

The total cost to employers due to mental health problems among their staff is estimated at nearly £26 billion each year. That is equivalent to £1,035 for every employee in the UK workforce.

Communication

Establishing and using effective channels of communication that engage employees are a key component in promoting employee health.  Examples: Health Notice Boards, Team Briefings, Internet/Intranet, Email, Wage Packet Inserts, Staff Surveys.
