Health Benefits of Stair Climbing

Date: 13 May 2014

Stair climbing is officially classified by the Department of Health and the American College of Sports Medicine as ‘vigorous exercise’.

It burns more calories a minute than jogging and research shows it builds fitness, muscle tone and cardiovascular health. Regular stair climbing protects against conditions including heart attack and stroke.

With stairs all around us, it’s an excellent way of keeping healthy and staying in shape.

“We have learned so much through the Cornwall Workplace Health Award Programme already, and are keen that we pass this learning on to our staff.  With many organisations already represented, we were surprised we haven’t got involved sooner as it’s so aligned to our overall ‘Wellbeing Ambition’ that working for the Environment Agency will improve health and wellbeing”
