Sharp's Brewery is proving itself a very happy and healthy place to work

ROCK-based Sharp’s Brewery is delighted to have won the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Healthy Workplace Silver Award for 2019 for health and wellbeing in the workplace. It is the very first year that the brewery has entered this accolade, however, its silver success demonstrates the company’s obvious commitment at an organisational level to the health and wellbeing agenda for all of its staff.

Costs of Ill Health

In 2006 around 175 million working days were lost due to illness and it is estimated that the annual economic costs of sickness absence and worklessness is over £100 billion.  (Working for a healthier tomorrow, Department of Health, March 2008). 


St. Austell Brewery won a gold award on their first year of taking part in the programme. Chrissie Knight, Occupational Health Manager for the brewery, commented, “Caring for and investing in the workforce has always been a priority at the Brewery and it is wonderful to gain recognition for the work that takes place at all levels to ensure that we remain an employer of choice for people in the South West, which is not only because of the opportunities that exist at many levels within the organisation, but also because of the support and benefits that exist for all employees”
