Our commitment to providing a healthy workplace spans across nutrition, physical exercise, preventative screening, stress management, smoking cessation and much more. We have a team of ‘Healthy Heroes' who meet regularly to create better ways of improving our workplace, some of the things implemented in 2010 include:

  • Nutritional information and healthy options in the staff canteen
  • Monthly newsletters detailing all the changes and tips for healthy lifestyle

  • Weight Management Group
  • Smoking cessation support group
  • Golf/bowling/football/badminton events
  • Design a smoothie

We have already achieved a Silver Healthy Workplace Award within 6 months and are working towards Gold award. We already have plans for 2011 including tri-athlon, flu jabs and the introduction of a salad bar to name a few.

MIND

Mind, a Mental Health Charity, released a report in May 2011 claiming that UK businesses could save £8 billion per year if they managed workplace stress properly. 

The survey also found that 41% of workers experience stress, making it more of a concern than personal finances, health and relationships. 

Costs of Ill Health

In 2006 around 175 million working days were lost due to illness and it is estimated that the annual economic costs of sickness absence and worklessness is over £100 billion.  (Working for a healthier tomorrow, Department of Health, March 2008).
