What we do:

We are one of the best colleges in the country, a fact recognised by Ofsted which gave us Outstanding status following our review in February 2016. We  offering an exceptional range of courses, providing industry-standard equipment and resources, all housed in modern, purpose-built facilities.  In 2017  Callywith College also opened in association with us to bring the same quality and provision to North and East Cornwall.

Recent health and well being activities:

We keep our one stop' Health and Wellbeing area on our Intranet up to date with new initiatives and we send an E-bulletin every term to inform staff of Health, Wellbeing, Sport and Sustainability initiatives This year campaigns included One You, Active 10, Mental Health Day, Cancer Awareness etc .  We carried out a Hydration Challenge, went to the aqua park, increased staff benefits and discounts.   

We have a timetable of over 60 weekly physical activities/classes that staff can join in for free from Rock Climbing  and Cardio Cycling to Gym Sessions and Swimming along with free part time courses.

Staff from all departments and of varying fitness levels have successfully trained for and competed in the River Dart Mud Run, ROC 5k, Mild Night Runs with more events planned for the future.

This year the college also won both the AoC’s Beacon Award for Mental Health and Wellbeing and Leading Light Accolade.  The AoC Beacon Awards celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK further education colleges and in this case for promoting a culture of well-being across all stakeholders, students and staff.

Top tip

Make sure you work with employees who show an early interest in the programme.

This will help get the project started and create early successes.

Sickness Absence

Annually the average sickness absence is 3.5% (8 days per employee) and the average cost of absence per employee is estimated at £666.  If you employ 100 people sickness absence is costing your business £66,000 each year.  (CIPD Employee Absence, July 2008).
